Senior Service Associates, will host a program for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). The focus of SCSEP is to foster and promote part-time opportunities in community service activities for persons with low incomes who are 55 and older, who have poor employment prospects and have the greatest economic need. With the experience gained and training received, our senior community will have the chance to overcome barriers and develop the skills necessary to remain competitive in today's diverse job market. The overall goal of the program is to acquire unsubsidized employment for the seniors, thus achieve self- sufficiency.

JOHNSBURG – Walla-Pa-Looza 2009, a musical fundraising event, will be held on Saturday, August 1. Volunteers from all over the county will converge to raise funds to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Walla-Pa-Looza 2009 will be held at the Johnsburg Community Club at 2315 W. Church Street in Johnsburg, from 2:00 pm -11:00 pm. The event will feature four live bands throughout the day; Always Frantic, Danny and the Devils, Peter & The Versatiles and Blush. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Half Times Pizza and Ribs. Events throughout the day will include a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, ticket raffle and more. This summer, music fans from McHenry County will converge on Galt Airport to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Woodstock Festival, the world-famous and now historic music & peace festival that drew over 500,000 to Max Yasgur's farm, near Woodstock, New York in 1969. In all, eight bands are scheduled to appear. They include tributes to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead and Santana. These are tributes to bands that played at the original '69 concert in upstate New York.

Turning Point 40 Hour Domestic Violence Training

Turning Point staff will facilitate a 40 hour domestic violence training program. This training meets the guidelines set by the Illinois Domestic Violence Professionals Board (ICDVP) and the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV). This training is for all interested in becoming advocates for victims of domestic violence. Participants will gain a greater understanding of domestic violence and how to best provide safety and support for victims. Training will begin on 9/10/09 and end on 10/3/09.
