The Alexander Leigh Center for Autism (ALCA) is a 501c3 charity, located in Lake in the Hills. It is a Developmental Learning Center and Illinois State Board of Education approved Therapeutic Day School for children with autistic spectrum disorders between the ages of 2 and 12. Currently, autism is the fastest growing neurodevelopmental disability in the United States. It is estimated that autism is being diagnosed at the rate of 1 out of every 100 children. It is our mission to provide an environment where our students can learn and thrive. We focus on sensory regulation, engagement, communication, academics, social skills, reduction of maladaptive behaviors, community integration, life skills and parent coaching. Each student has an individualized 1:1 program designed to meet their unique needs, using proven methodologies and teaching strategies to gain functional independence. ALCA continues to grow and develop with the rising population of autism. In order to continue to provide quality services to our students and their families, we need community support.

The Freedom of Forgiveness by Mary Hayes Grieco
-
The Freedom of Forgiveness
by Mary Hayes Grieco
April 29, 2010 • MCC Conference Center
8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Professional Seminar
The Freedom of Forgiveness:
An effective process that will help your clients become free of past hurts.
• Seminar for psychologists, counselors, marriage and family therapists,
nurses, social workers and other professionals.
Forgiveness, usually considered to be within the territory of religious teachings, has become a concern of both psychology and medicine in the past ten years, generating at least 2,300 studies. The studies prove what we have always intuitively known to be true – holding on to resentments is bad for our health and happiness. Forgiveness of another will measurably reduce levels of physical stress.
In this seminar you will:
•Review current research linking forgiveness with stress reduction.
•Learn the Psychosynthesis Model of psychological health and wholeness.
•Learn the Eight Steps of Forgiving Another and the process of self-forgiveness.
•Learn how forgiveness brings healing into a recovering family system.
•Develop strategies for applying The Eight Steps of Forgiveness in a clinical practice.
CEUs for the professional seminar will be available (additional $10 payable to MCC at
the seminar)
Fee: $79 (NCC S63 001) or $64 for SEDOM employees (NCC S63 002)
To register, call (815) 455-8588 and reference the ID number.

VOICE Sexual Assault Center Hosts Scholarship ART Contest/Show for
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
MCHENRY, IL – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Women, men and youth from McHenry County will join concerned citizens throughout Illinois and the nation during April to Decide to End Sexual Violence and promote healthy relationships and communities. VOICE is an ICASA (Illinois Coalition against Sexual Assault) Center.
Do you Know?
1 in 3 women in the world have been beaten, forced to have sex, or abused in her lifetime.
1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18.
In almost 80% of sexual assaults, the offender is someone known to the victim.
A third of rape victims have seriously considered suicide and 13% have attempted it.
1 in 3 high school and college students experience violence in a dating relationship, whether it’s physical, sexual, or emotional.
This may even have happened to someone you know. Quite often, people keep this a secret. Through VOICE Sexual Assault Services, we empower victims to speak out and have a VOICE.
In support of sexual assault awareness month the McHenry County Sheriff’s department and many other local police departments will be putting the VOICE “Stop Sexual Assault” awareness car ribbon magnets on their squad cars.
We ask that you join us to help end sexual violence and call us today to get your free “Stop Sexual Assault” car ribbon magnet!
In addition, on May 6th VOICE Sexual Assault Services will hold a themed ART Contest/Show titled “Relationship Pressures” various styles of art media will depict the theme of Relationship Pressures. Students of McHenry County Schools are invited to participate. Scholarships will be awarded to 1st through 4th place. 1st Place will receive $1,000, 2nd Place $500, 3rd and 4th place $250 each. Scholarships are provided by Lewke Partners, Crystal Lake, IL. For more information about the Art show or to get your free ribbon please call: (815) 759-7055 or (815) 759-7066.
The public is also invited to join us for the Judging and viewing of The Adolescent Allies Art Show, which will be held on Thursday, May 6th at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Art will be displayed May 3rd through May 8th. Almost half of sexual assaults happen before the age of 18 years of age. We hope that by educating high school students we will prevent sexual violence and/or help people help survivors come forward. We expect people of all ages to view the art and educate themselves, family members or friends. VOICE provides: Crisis intervention, medical advocacy, counseling, legal advocacy, survivors support groups, and prevention and community education.
If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to support the VOICE program and victims of sexual assault please call (815) 759-7055 or visit us online at: www.Pioneercenter.org.
