Date of Training: 6/18/2010 : Mutual Performance Reviews : Organizations that attempt to maximize volunteer participation see a mutual assessment time, as a time to look at what additional support the organization needs to offer volunteers to ensure success. It is a mutual way to express appreciation, identify problems and needs, determine volunteer’s future involvement in the organization, and hold the volunteer and organization accountable for their commitment to one another. Participants will define a mutual performance review process for volunteers that fit into the total supervision and support system of the organization; identify the purposes, benefits and barriers of instituting or enhancing a mutual performance review process; and target potential outcomes of mutual performance reviews of volunteers.

Date of Training: 8/20/2010 : Volunteer Motivation : We are frequently caught up in the faulty thinking: “How can I motivate my volunteers?” We can’t motivate people; we can only provide situations which help others motivate themselves. Participants will underscore that success in volunteer programs involves matching an organization’s needs with a volunteer’s ability and motivation; explain the variety of reasons of why people volunteer today; determine their own personal motivation style and its impact on volunteer placement, supervision, and recognition preferences; and examine motivation theory In light of the organization’s ability to attract and retain volunteers.

Date of Training: 11/19/2010 : Volunteer Program Evaluation : If we can carry out thoughtful evaluations that seek to answer important questions, both quantitative and qualitative, about our programs, these programs are more likely to succeed. A volunteer program that is “doing nice things” simply is not enough in today’s world of diminishing resources. Participants will identify steps needed to establish a volunteer program evaluation; explore four types of volunteer program evaluation; learn to identify stakeholders who need results of the evaluation communicated to them.

Date of Training: 12/17/2010 : Volunteer Recruitment : Everyone can relate to the consequences to the new volunteer and to the organization when the wrong person is recruited. Often when an organization is involved in volunteer recruitment, they are so anxious to fill slots or add to the membership that little care is given to find the right people. Participants will understand what recruitment is and the impact of doing it well; list objectives and barriers that people might have to volunteering at their organization and some strategies to over come them; design an effective recruitment message; and describe the characteristics of effective recruiters.
