Our mission is to help children in need reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring relationships that will improve the lives of these children forever. Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County is looking for men and women to volunteer to be a mentor to an at-risk child ages 6-14 in the community. Matches spend time talking, going to the movies, playing sports, or just hanging out. It only takes a little time to make a BIG difference.

does the volunteer need take place? We serve all of McHenry County but are currently looking for mentors located in or near McHenry, Woodstock, Crystal Lake, & Lake in the Hills

CASA of McHenry County Volunteer Child Advocates

Description:
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer appointed by the juvenile court judge to provide objective, factual information in the best interests of a child who is involved in an abuse or neglect case in the court system. CASA volunteers are ordinary adult citizens. No special or legal background is required. Volunteers are screened closely for objectivity, competence and commitment.
When
does the volunteer need take place? This is an on-going need with training provided 3-4 times per year (view website for upcoming training opportunities). The next training will begin 9/22/08. Volunteers must fill out an application and participate in an interview prior to being accepted into the training class.

Turning Point, Inc Indirect Service Volunteer

Support our staff in their efforts to aid the victims of domestic abuse. We need volunteers to perform a wide variety of tasks in the following areas: childcare, food pantry, office work, translation, housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance and fundraising. We would also appreciate hearing about any other skills or talents that you would like to share with us.

does the volunteer need take place? We have volunteer opportunties days, evenings and weekends.
Description:
Help victims of domestic abuse. Our direct service volunteers take calls on our 24 hour crisis line, serve as legal advocates, co-facilitate women's and children's support groups, help in the shelter and drive victims to appointments. Direct service volunteers are required to complete an ICDVP certified 40 hour domestic violence training course. There is an $85 fee for the course.

The school district has a need for teens and adults that are willing to mentor or tutor children in first through third grade. In addition, we have opporutnities throughout the year for single events, like "Love to Read Week", that need additional support. We always welcome businesses that are interested in having their employees in an organized community service.

does the volunteer need take place? Monday-Friday, hours per month is flexible as is time of day. Consistency is helpful. A few hours a week is optimal, few hours a month is possible.
