16864 CASA of McHenry County Volunteer Child Advocates Location: Woodstock 60098 Description: A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer appointed by the juvenile court judge to provide objective, factual information in the best interests of a child who is involved in an abuse or neglect case in the court system. CASA volunteers are ordinary adult citizens. No special or legal background is required. Volunteers are screened closely for objectivity, competence and commitment. When does the volunteer need take place? This is an on-going need with training provided 3-4 times per year (view website for upcoming training opportunities). The next training will begin 9/22/08. Our direct service volunteers take calls on our 24 hour crisis line, serve as legal advocates, co-facilitate women's and children's support groups, help in the shelter and drive victims to appointments.
