Description:
The primary responsiblity of this volunteer task is to come to The Light Center, pick up the towels used to clean around the barn, stalls, and farm, wash the towels, and then return the towels to the barn. This can be done at home or at the local laundry mat. The task usually takes 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the load.

does the volunteer need take place? Once a week, whenever most conveient for the volunteer.
Description:
Basic handyman skills required. The role of Light Center Handy(wo)man is to assist in the maintenance and repair needs of the facility. Tasks could include but are not limited to: electrical repairs, painting, carpentry, plumbing, woodworking, fencing, general up-keep fix it needs as identified by barn manager/staff

Description:
General comfort around animals is necessary.
The primary responsiblities of the Small Animal Caretaker is to assist our dedicated barn personnel in completing the daily and weekly tasks and responsibilities of their positions by maintaining the general care of the animals and of the facility. Our menagerie of therapeutic friends include ponies, goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, a donkey, a mini dwarf horse, all which require care, training, and consistent human touch to keep them "program friendly". Taks could include but are not limited to: handling animals, grooming, haltering and walking animals, training, cleaning cages, feed, and water bowls, mucking stalls, picking up manure/debris in the pastures, assist with cleaning tasks in L'il Red Barn keeper position

The Light Center Volunteer Program Assistant

Tasks could include but are not limited working with participants in the following areas: animal assisted activities, gardening, woodworking, art, music

Description:
The garden angel's role is to tend to and help maintain the Light Center organic garden which is planted, nurtured and harvested by our youth participants. Tasks could include but are not limited to: planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, assisting youth groups with all of the above
When
does the volunteer need take place? Seasonal: spring, summer
Description:
Satisfactory completion of TLC equine exam and assessment of equine abilities/experience by Light Center staff. The certified equine volunteers' responsiblities are to assist in the care, handling, and training of the Light Center therapy horses whice are utilized in our Equine Skills Development programs as well as to help the maintenance nad upkeep of the "little red barn".
Tasks could include, but are not limited to: grooming horses, longing, haltering and walking horses, training, mucking stalls, scrubbing feed & water bowls, riding (riding abilites must be assessed by TLC staff member), veterinary assistance, farrier assistance, sheering, suppies and/or feeding acquisition, assist with cleaning tasks in L'il Red Barn Keeper position

On-call/as needed or assist with regularly scheduled group. The role of Equine Program Assistant is to aid and support TLC instructors with children/teen groups during equine specific activites. Tasks could include but are not limited to working with participants and horses in the following areas: turing out horses, longing, grooming, leading.

Description:
The primary responsiblities of the Bunny Cage cleaner is to remove all the contents of the cage and dispose of old straw/hay, clean food and water dishes, scrub rubber mats from the inside of the cage, replace straw/hay, and refill food and water dishes. The job usually takes between 45-60 minutes to clean one cage. Some lifting of rubber mats is required. Once the task has been completed, the area will need to be swept.
When
does the volunteer need take place? We have 5 bunny cages that need to be cleaned weekly. Weekends usually work out the best for most volunteers.
