If you’re wild about natural areas and want to help make them even better, come to a restoration workday! Some of the things you'll assist MCCD Site Stewards with include: removing invasive brush and vegetation; stacking brush for burning; helping with site clean-up; planting and collecting the seed of native plants. Learn about habitat restoration and native plants, and meet people who share your interest in the environment. Training & equipment are provided by the Conservation District. Come and make a difference with us!
When does the volunteer need take place?
Restoration workdays are usually held on weekends, and typically last 3-4 hours. If your group of 10 or more is interested in participating, a special restoration session can be scheduled. Opportunities are ongoing throughout the year at various sites around McHenry County.

Volunteers need to be communicative, patient, senior-friendly and willing dedicate at least one hour a week visiting their assigned senior. This program helps pave the way for genuine friendships to grow.

The volunteer opportunity takes place within the senior's home, so the volunteer will need transportation. If both participants want to go outside the home to socialize (go to lunch or shopping) that is taken into consideration when making a match.

We are looking for volunteers to help residents on outings. These trips could range in time from 2-3 hours to all day. Each volunteer would supervise 1-2 residents depending on the trip. We do a lot of fun trips including boat rides, luncheons, van rides, band concerts and other local and community events.
