McHenry County Conservation District Site Restoration Volunteer
Location:
Alden 60033
Description:
McHenry County Conservation District's Site Stewards need your help in restoring habitat at Alden Sedge Meadow South, a conservation area located at the headwaters of the Nippersink Creek on Rt. 173 between Harvard and Hebron. This site contains oak savanna (a globally-endangered ecosystem), woodland, wetland and a pioneer cemetery. Worday activities may include removing invasive plants, stacking brush, as well as collecting and sowing native plant seed. Beginners are welcome, and training is provided. You're invited to join the Site Stewards at the end of each session for an interpretive hike. Attending a restoration workday is a great way to experience this special conservation site, which is not open to the general public. Before coming to a workday, please call MCCD Site Stewards Jack and Judy Speer at 815-648-1372 or 815-690-6240 to confirm specific dates and directions.
When
does the volunteer need take place? Restoration workdays offer a year-round, all-season opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment of McHenry County. You're invited to drop in for just one session - or return each month to watch the seasons change and see what a difference your work makes! Restoration workdays are generally held on the third Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. Before coming to a workday, please call MCCD Site Stewards Jack and Judy Speer at 815-648-1372 or 815-690-6240 to confirm specific dates and directions.
